Attempted Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

Turlock, Ca – On February 1, 2024, Turlock Police S.W.A.T. Team, with the help of
Merced County Sheriff’s Office, and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, served a search
warrant at a residence in the 2900 block of North Waring Road in Denair, Ca. Jose
Elizalde, a 29-year-old Denair resident, was located at the residence and was arrested
for an attempted robbery that occurred on January 25, 2024, in Turlock.
On January 25, 2024 at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a call of a
panic alarm at a bank in the 2400 block of Geer Road. When the first officer arrived, he
learned of an attempted bank robbery that had just occurred, and that the suspect had
fled in an unknown direction. The suspect was described as wearing a full ski mask,
gloves, and a large jacket. Another witness told an assisting officer that the suspect
took off on a white dirt bike and was last seen headed east on E. Tuolumne Road.
Officers obtained surveillance footage and canvased the area. Detectives arrived on
scene and took over the investigation.
During the course of the investigation, Turlock Police Detectives were able to obtain
evidence that lead to the identification of Elizalde. Detectives also learned that Elizalde
was associated with a robbery case the Merced County Sheriff’s Office was
investigating. Working together, Turlock Police and Merced County Sheriff’s Office both
obtained warrants for the arrest of Elizalde. Elizalde was booked into the Merced
County Jail on both agency’s warrants where he is held on a $1.1 million-dollar bail.
We would like to thank Merced County Sheriff’s Department and the Stanislaus County
Sheriff’s Department for their prompt assistance on the apprehension of Elizalde.
Together, we keep our communities safe.
