PRESS RELEASE: Hostage Standoff Results in Arrest

Turlock, Ca – On Monday, February 12, 2024, at approximately 7:46 p.m., Turlock Police Dispatch received a call of a verbal disturbance in the 1700 block of Elmcrest Court in the city of Turlock. The caller reported that Gerardo Partida, 26 of Turlock, was inside the residence and had threatened to assault her. According to the reporting party, Partida was under the influence of narcotics and was known to carry a firearm. Additionally, Partida had a felony no-bail warrant for his arrest, and was on Postrelease Community Supervision (PRCS).

The reporting party and a relative of Partida locked themselves inside a bedroom until officers arrived. Partida continued to make threats of violence through the locked door. The two individuals eventually climbed out of a bedroom window to safety and met with officers. At that time, officers were notified there were two additional family members still inside the house with Partida. Officers made multiple attempts to contact Partida and the other family members through various measures in order to determine if they were held hostage but were unsuccessful.

On February 13, 2024, at approximately 12:32 a.m., Turlock Police Critical Response Team, comprised of Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) and Hostage Negotiations Team (H.N.T.), was activated and responded to the scene. Several more attempts to contact Partida and the family members were made, with no success. During the course of the incident, information was developed that the family members were, in fact, being held against their will by Partida and they were in immediate danger of physical violence by Partida.

S.W.A.T. team members forced entry into the residence and rescued both family members from Partida’s control. Both victims were immediately transported to local hospitals for major injuries inflicted by Partida. Gerardo Partida was placed under arrest for two counts of attempted homicide, two counts of false imprisonment, two counts of terrorist threats, and one count of elder abuse and was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Facility.

Chief Jason Hedden said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims as they continue undergoing care for their significant injuries at a Modesto area hospital.”
