PRESS RELEASE: Cinco de Mayo 2024

Turlock, California – The Turlock Police Department encourages the public to celebrate Cinco de Mayo responsibly by planning ahead and designating a sober driver.

On May 5th, the Turlock Police Department will have additional officers on patrol during the evening hours, looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

“Don’t put yourself and others on the road at risk by driving impaired,” Sergeant Jason Watson said. “If you’re planning to celebrate with a drink or two, leave your keys at home and designate a sober driver.”

The Turlock Police Department wants to warn the community that alcohol is not the only substance that can cause impairment. Marijuana, prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may also impair. Do your research and understand how certain drugs may affect your driving ability.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Turlock Police Department is an active participant in the Crime Stoppers Program. Citizens can leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636 and may be eligible for a cash reward.
